Pier2Pier Sea Swim Isle of Wight 2023. Saturday 5th August 2023 at 3pm. CANCELLED

NOTICE: The English summer strikes again!! Very regrettably we are having to cancel the Pier2Pier Sea Swim Isle of Wight for 2023, due to forecast bad weather. A very difficult decision but the safety of swimmers and safety craft are our priority. Thank you for your support of the event – we very much hope to see you all in 2024.

We are delighted to announce that the Pier2Pier Sea Swim Isle of Wight 2023 is open for entries! The event takes place on Saturday 5th August 2023.

In response to requests we have received, we are including a 15-17 years age category for the first time, and so please encourage the younger swimmers in your family to join us.

This event tends to sell out very quickly and so we would encourage you to enter as soon as you can.  Please also spread the word amongst your swimming community.

Now in its 69th year, the Pier2Pier Sea Swim Isle of Wight is a 1.8 mile open water event organised by the Isle of Wight Marlins Swim Club, under the auspices of the British Long Distance Swimming Association (BLDSA). The swim starts adjacent to Sandown Pier and follows the Sandown to Shanklin Bay, a stunning stretch of coastline lined by dramatic sandstone cliffs. The race ends on the beach outside the Shanklin Rowing Club, which is located by the site of the old Shanklin Pier that was destroyed in the gales of 1987. The route takes in beautiful sandy beaches and the esplanade walk that tracks the swim route has many lovely cafés – perfect for family and friends who come to watch, and for a post-swim lunch!

To ensure the safety of the swimmers the crews of the Sandown/Shanklin and the Ryde Inshore Independent Lifeboats, and members of the Shanklin Deep Sea Fishing Club provide powered craft.  The first line of safety is supplied by kayakers, supervised by the Isle of Wight Kayak Club. The organisers are requesting anyone who is a kayaker or canoeist and can assist to contact Andrew Dean at safetycraft@iowmarlinsswimclub.co.uk with their details.  Please help us to keep this iconic event going by supporting us if you can.
