National Masters Championships 2013
Ponds Forge Pool in Sheffield is the established venue for the annual National Masters Swimming Championships.
Competing in her first year of the 75-79 years age group, Jenny Ball had a successful weekend of competition, along with club mate, Rosemary Johnson 70-74 years.
Both were swimming in the distance and backstroke events, and are from the Isle of Wight Marlins, though swimming for their respective, second claim clubs, each achieving improved times from earlier in the year.
Rosemary won three bronze medals: 1500m. freestyle,100 and 200m. backstroke.
Jenny won six gold medals : 800,400 and 100 freestyle and 200, 100 and 50 backstroke. She also claimed silver medals in 50 freestyle and 50 breaststroke.
Also swimming in relays, in the mixed 240 years team of two men and two ladies, whose ages must add up to not less than 240 years, medley and freestyle races brought Jenny a further two gold medals.
These results put Jenny in the age-adjusted, Masters’ ‘Decathlon’ points position at 99th. place out of a total of 1340 competing Master swimmers, nationally.
Both swimmers had also competed and medalled, a short while ago in the Great Britain Masters Championships at the newly built Plymouth Life Centre, an amazing complex with Olympic 50 metre pool and diving facilities.
