2019 Pier to Pier Swim. Results now available.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who took part in this year’s event.

The 67th Pier 2 Pier Sea Swim event on the Isle of Wight took place on Saturday 3rd August.

Organised and run by the BDLSA affiliated IOW Marlins Masters Swim Club, the popularity of this event brought 122 swimmers to Sandown Pier where the swimmers then swam the 1.8 miles across the Sandown/Shanklin Bay to finish on the beach outside the Shanklin Rowing Club, which is by the site of the old Shanklin Pier that was destroyed in the gales of 1987.

All 122 swimmers safely completed the course, escorted by 32 kayakers, 2 Independent Lifeboats and 4 Shanklin Deep Sea Fisherman in their motorised craft.

For the 2nd year swimmers in wetsuits were allowed, but the majority of the swimmers were in costumes.

The event remains popular as swimmers do not have to be registered with a Club and so we had many ‘independent’ swimmers involved.

As the swimmers waited for the results they enjoyed the hot soup and bread rolls, as well as ‘other’ club house facilities at the rowing Club, plus a bar of chocolate supplied by Tesco. All swimmers received a commemorative medal.

Date for your diary – The 68th event will take place on Saturday 1st August 2020.
