The Masters and Seniors National Championships were held again at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge pool, when seven Islanders, three from Isle of Wight Marlins took part. Rosemary Johnson and Peter Harding, both living on the mainland but Isle of Wight Marlins Club members, joined Jenny Ball for the three day event.

Peter 72, lowered his breaststroke times for 100 and 200 m,winning two Bronze medals, just missing a third bronze by 18 hundredths of a second in the 50 breaststroke.

Jenny also 72, won Gold medals in 200, 800 and 1500m freestyle and a Silver in 100m Individual medley. She also officiated during the sessions when she was not swimming.

Rosemary acted as an official throughout the entire weekend.

These three somewhat ageing Masters were delighted that three much younger swimmers and their coach Dave Russell, from West Wight Swimming Club, are now competing at the larger Masters events!
